TRYOUT AND SELECTION PROCESS
Each age appropriate level of play shall have two tryouts. It is encouraged that all interested players attend both tryouts. Players shall be evaluated by BBC board members and their designated evaluators on the following skills:
Hitting (Mechanics, Contact, Power)
Throwing (Mechanics, Accuracy, Arm Strength)
Infield (Mechanics, Accuracy, Range)
Outfield (Mechanics, Accuracy, Strength)
Base running (Speed, Form, and Speed)
Attitude & Coachability
Pitchers and Catchers will be evaluated on specific metrics for those positions of play. Catchers in particular, should be prepared to bring their appropriate gear to each tryout.
Offensive evaluations will include “live pitching” with no pitching machines.
Players shall be evaluated on a scale of one to ten (1 being the lowest, 10 being the highest) on the proficiency of each evaluated metric. If a player should attend both tryouts, only his/her highest scores from each day shall be used to determine an invitation to the team.
Players should come prepared for a minimum two hour tryout. Tryouts may last longer or be moved to a different night based upon group size and attendees.
Players must come in athletic attire and not wear any BBC Travel uniforms or gear from previous seasons. They should bring game necessities such as their Cap, bat, glove, cleats, cup, and equipment bag. Other necessities should include a water bottle and sunscreen as needed.
There will be no additional tryouts other than those listed. If a rainout occurs, it shall be determined, by the Travel committee and BBC Board, if an additional tryout is required and then will be rescheduled. This shall be posted on the website under the TRAVEL TEAM TRYOUTS tab.
All players who participate in a tryout shall be notified whether they are or are not invited to a 2010 travel team squad. You will receive a phone call within 24-48 hours after the last tryout.
